Hello Parents and Students.
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and provide you with some important information. I am a graduate of Wilmington University with a Bachelor of Science in English Education and a Master’s Degree in School Leadership.
I spent 1 year as a paraeducator and 6 years as a SAM/TAM teacher supporting students on various learning levels and grade levels. Over the years, my passion for education grew and I found a love for the opportunities for one-on-one instruction. This past year, after having my daughter, I decided to walk away from the classroom and focus more on my family and really develop my one-on-one instructional platform.
What does that mean for you and your student?
Without the demands of a full time teaching position, I am better able to work to develop an individualized instructional plan for your student. With my education, my experience, and my continued educational endeavors, I will work with you and your student to help them to not only learn and keep up with the curriculum, but also help them develop self-esteem and confidence. My goal is to improve attitude towards learning and school as well as encourage self-paced and self-directed learning.
How does this work?
Just like good old fashioned tutoring, we meet to work on getting you or your student where they need to be academically. By using school provided data and/or individualized assessments, I will develop a personalized lesson plan for each of my students. Because of this, each student is able to get the time and attention they need on the level they understand in order to get them on the level they need to be on.
The twist though, is that in a world filled with advance technology, I am also able to offer one-on-one tutoring to students that may not be in the direct area, want to keep up with studies while of town, or in those times that the weather does not permit travel.
Who do I work with?
K-8 ELA and math, K-12 ELA, SAT and GED prep and college ELA. Through my continued studies, I am constantly building my own skills and ability and there's always a way to find a way.
What do you get?
Each session is designed to address the individual needs of each student. Each lesson will be individualized and based on the progress and school work requirements. I will provide manipulative materials and work that will support, encourage, and challenge each student appropriately.
I am very excited about all of the possibilities that will come from working with you and your student and I look forward to our 30 minute assessment session. We can spend this time discussing the needs of your student and your expectation of me as a tutor. Please keep in mind that agreeing to a 30 minute session does not obligate you to sign up for any additional tutoring sessions. Also, I am honest and look want each of my students to get everything they need, even if that means referring your student to one of my equally-qualified team members.
Parents, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
I look forward to getting to know you and your student and exploring the possibilities that await.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chalisa McCray
